Season
Autumn World Migratory Bird Day
For World Migratory Bird Day this October (and also the eBird Big Day), SLU Birders took a trip to Indian Creek Nature Center. We had a great time! There was a huge amount of Rusty and Red-winged Blackbirds, and lots of waterfowl. The weather was beautiful and it was the perfect day for birding.
Fall birding
The SLU Birders club went out on the Sandbanks trail for a relaxing fall birding walk. We didn't see much, but the fall colors were spectacular! The contrast of the evergreen trees with the deciduous understory is beautiful. We did see this cute Downy Woodpecker and I was able to snap a few photos.
SLU Peak Weekend at St. Regis Mountain
Every year the SLU Outing Club does Peak Weekend. This year I joined a group to hike up St Regis Mountain and had a blast! The weather was perfect and the trees changing color made it magical.
Solstice sunset walk in the forest
Took a walk in the woods as the sun was beginning to set on the shortest day of the year.
Grasse River Paddle
A gorgeous afternoon for a kayak on the Grasse, thanks to SLU’s canoe shack! The first signs of fall are starting to show in the yellowing of leaves. Spotted a few turtles sunning themselves, lots of frogs hanging out on the algae, a few remaining flowers. Followed two belted kingfishers up the river for a while, but they just wouldn’t pose for a good photo. A beautiful day!
Fall in the ADKS
Hiked in to Low's Lake Overlook on a warm Sunday in September. The colors were spectacular!
Mt. Arab Sunset Hike
The October sunset as viewed from the watchtower at Mt. Arab summit. It is a fairly easy and family-friendly hike that clocks in at just under 2 miles round trip. The views on a clear day are spectacular, and the watchtower has maps to help identify the foothills as well as Arab and Tupper Lake. The foliage peaks around mid-October as captured here!
First flowers!
First crocuses open in my yard today! A welcome sight. Snowdrops, too but I think they have been blossoming for a few days now.
Snowy Azure
Azure was covered in a layer of light fluffy snow, and just as we got to the top the sun broke through the clouds. For a relatively small mountain, Azure is always such a worthwhile hike and has some really amazing views.
