Frog
Wood Frog on the trail
While walking on the cross country trails behind the athletic center at St. Lawrence University, I decided to venture towards the Grasse Rivers shore to see if I could find any creatures. As I was walking through the bit of forest between the trail and the river, I saw something from the corner of my eye jump away. Blended perfectly with the decaying and dried leaves from the previous fall, a wood frog was attempting to get away from me as quickly as possible. After a long chase and through branches and saplings, I was finally able to catch the little frog.
Tree Frog Resting in White Pine
I was walking on the Kip Track, practicing Tree ID for my biology class, when this tree frog caught my eye. It was resting sleepily in a big fissure in a white pine tree. He hardly moved as I took photo after photo of him. I also got a couple photos of a chattering chipmunk.
Little River Nature Area
Had a great walk on a breezy fall day by the river on the Little River Nature Area Trail. I even got to see a northern leopard frog!
Frogs enjoying fall
Had my class out for field exams today and encountered some nice looking amphibians, including two very large bullfrogs.
Kip Trail Nature Walk on a Saturday afternoon
Gorgeous cool and sunny fall afternoon.
Woods critters
Two of the critters we bumped into with my Vertebrate Natural History class over the weekend. Not often you get to see a deer mouse up close. The wood frog is my favorite local amphibian with its "raccoon-like" mask.
Leopard Frogs on Kip Track
As I walked along the KIP track behind the Wachmeister Field Station at St.Lawrence University I happened to spot two adult leopard frogs sitting in a tiny creek before the first bridge set up along the trail. I am taking an amphibian course this fall,so i tried to catch one to get a better look but they both got away. I was, however, able to take a few pictures of one of the frog's gorgeous coloring. It was sunny out when I spotted them and it had just rained the night before.
Frogs in the Lower Great Range
My friends and I spent the day traversing through the lower great range in the Adirondack Park. It was a very long day, climbing over 6 mountains, 5 being high peaks. Near the beginning of our journey, we came across this little frog just relaxing on the side of the trail, there were a few more similar to this species, but we were not sure what species it actually is.
Frog on a Lilypad
Camping and kayaking at Mountain Pond off of Route 30 near Barnum Pond and Paul Smith's we had these frogs vocalizing every evening through the night. It sounded like there were thousands!
