Mountain
Goodman Mt
Still plenty of snow left for snowshoeing on Goodman. This is on of the Tupper Lake triad peaks. 3.4 miles round trip, with great views of Coney Mt and Horseshoe lake.
Tooley Pond Mountain sunrise
It was a chilly 9 below zero morning, but the full moon and clear skies made for an amazing sunrise. And now the trail is broke, so check it out for yourself.
Fresh tracks on Azure
A few inches of snow overnight and a bluebird morning made for a great trip up Azure. We skinned up and skied back down, and it was probably the most filled in that I've ever skied it. I'm always surprised by how great the views are for a relatively short hike.
Lyon Mountain
First time heading up Lyon, which is just about an hour and 45 minutes from Canton. It was around a 2 hour moderate hike or skin up to a lookout slightly below the summit, with beautiful views of the Adirondacks to the south and Chazy Lake and Champlain to the east. The forest was mostly birch at lower elevation transitioning to evergreens higher up. Definitely a hike worth checking out!
Low's overlook & Hitchen's pond
This is a great trek either by land or water. I kayaked in from Low's lower dam to the upper dam (3 miles). This alone is an amazing experience. From there i took the trail up to the ruins of Hitchen's park and then the trail to the overlook (+/- a mile). The views of the Bog river plains and the high peaks are breathtaking. You can also walk in from the Horseshoe lake road.
Khyber Slide (Upper Wolfjaw) 2017: November Early Season Ice
Khyber's Slide on Upper Wolfjaw Mountain. Hunting early season ice with Dan Plumley and Loren Swears. The pitches run up to WI3 grade ice.
Sunrise on Mt. Arab
As the fog cleared from the lower elevations, it left behind a layer of frost on the trees. I like to imagine it was snow.
Panther Gorge: Mt. Marcy: Anorthofright (5.9-)
http://www.summitpost.org/panther-gorge-mt-marcy-anorthofright-5-9/1005…
A long multi-pitch rock climb up the overhangs and obvious white streak of Mt. Marcy's white scar. Steven St. Pierre and I added this route to Marcy on August 27. 2017. ...another 20 hour day in Panther Gorge, but well worth the effort. Follow the link above for a full report and photographs.
Scarface Mountain 10/10/27
This is the 5th 6er that I have done. Just like Haystack and Baker I walked right past the summit without even realizing it! The trail up the mountain makes up for the lack of views. You go through a pine forest which goes over a train track and a wooden footbridge. The trail was quite muddy but I went the day after a major rainstorm so that was unavoidable. This was a great trail with lots of chipmunks and quite a few partridges. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a bit of a challenge that doesn't mind the lack of views at the top.
Ausable Club AMR at St. Huberts
A nice brisk 32 degree temperature started the morning. We hiked some of the west river trail, bear run trail and cathedral rocks trail. We ended on the ladies half mile and the river road. Beautiful forests and not to many people on the trails were we where. (the parking lot was at capacity by 7:30 and probably a hundred cars on the roadside noon). Great views of Giant Mt and many other lower peaks.
