Stone Valley Fungus (Close Up)

When we went snow-shoeing in Stone Valley, located in Colton NY, we got to explore the outdoors on our own, at our own speed. I was able to snap a lot of pictures, one of them being this close-up picture of what seems to be fungus growing on a tree. This tree was a Sugar Maple, and there was a large bunch of fungus growing on it. This particular fungus is called Northern Tooth Fungus and it is looks similar to a beehive, at first glance. The growth of this fungus starts by a tiny floating fungal spore in the wind that latches onto the bark of a Maple tree, a particularly hospitable place for it to grow. It has the name "Tooth Fungus" because the shelves of fungus almost look like teeth. This natural sight was intriguing and worthy of a picture.
