Paddling Series: Water Plant Adventures
Wild Edible Plants Walk on Chippewa Preserve Trail
Nature is fruitful, but fruits aren't the only edible parts of wild plants. On Saturday, July 28, 2018 the Chippewa Bay Community Club and Nature Up North will sponsor a "Wild Edible Plants Walk" on the Chippewa Bay Preserve Trail in Chippewa Bay from 10 am - Noon. Learn how to find, identify and prepare local edible plants both responsibly and safely. Having a better understanding of what is edible and what isn't will enhance your connection to the local environment as well as your survival skills.
Intro to Fishing Clinic
Join the Nature Up North Team to learn about local fish and how to cast - fishing poles included, free of charge!
Natural Tie-Dye with Plants!
Natural dying is an ancient practice of using natural plant or animal products to dye textiles. Most clothing today is dyed with synthetic dye, but you can experience the magic of coloring an article of clothing with plants you can find in your backyard! Join us for a workshop on how to identify these plants, and dye your own bandana to take home with our dyes! RSVP to info@natureupnorth.org.
Summer Solstice Campfire
Come celebrate the longest day of summer sun with us! We will tell some stories, and there will be a short talk about foraging, after which we will share "Wild S'mores" - s'mores featuring different common wild edible plants. Feel free to bring a short story or appreciation to share.

Summer Campfire Series: Fire-making with Len Mackey
Want to learn to start a fire by hand? As is tradition, we're kicking off our summer campfire series by inviting you to come help us light the first fire of the season! Len Mackey will be joining us for an interactive evening learning the Earth's oldest ways of making fire with hand or bow drill. Once the fire is burning, we will enjoy the deep, peaceful power of songs from Native North America and Guinea West Africa, and learn how to play traditional rhythms during a hand-drumming demonstration by Len Mackey.
Arbor Day Ash Tree Survey - Remington Trail
Join us to celebrate Arbor Day by mapping Ash Trees on Remmington Recreational Trail in Canton. Bikers and walkers of all ages welcome!
The Community Ash Tree Survey is a citizen science project in which community members survey the location and status of ash trees across St. Lawrence County in response to the arrival of the invasive emerald ash borer beetle (Agrilus planipennis; EAB) in 2017.
