Peekaboo Gray Fox

I spotted this cutie peeking out through the snow. I am hoping to see kits come spring!

Otterly Amazed!

I have been hoping to see otters on the lake and it finally happened this season. This is my third encounter in my own backyard!

Otterly Amazed!

I was on one of my regular walks along the lake and the otter popped up. I spotted one earlier in the season in just about the same spot. I have been hoping to see an otter since we moved here and it finally happened, right in my backyard!

8th Annual Cardboard Sled Race Recap!

The 8th Annual Cardboard Sled Race this past Saturday, February 14th was better than we could have hoped and a great way to enjoy Canton's Winterfest after a chilling weekend forced the race to reschedule. Our patience paid off, with a balmy day in the mid-20's and sunny skies, making perfect conditions for speeding down SUNY Canton's sledding hill. Competition was fierce, with many racers fighting their way to the finish line by dragging, flipping, rolling, or getting a boost in their sled from a teammate. Participants competed 1 v.

A reminder to myself to "see" when I look.

I brought my camera out on a short trip to the lower lake dam, as it had been one of the few spots with open water recently.
I got some quick pictures of some of the swans and merganser that have been residing there for the past month or so.
But it wasn't until I looked at the pictures did I see the ice formations behind the birds and realized I could have focused on them and gotten some interesting images.

There is always tomorrow I suppose.

Hare tracks in Azure

Did a quick snowshoe up Azure Mountain and found a bunch of snowshoe hare tracks. The picture doesn't do their size justice. I followed them after taking the photo and found where they must have settled down for a night recently. I didn't see any hares while at the top though.

Monitor My Maple

Monitor My Maple is our flagship citizen science project.

Residents volunteer to observe and record seasonal changes (also called phenological changes) in local maple trees.

Snowfall at SLU

Campus looked very pretty the day after a lot of snow fell! I like how the red berries contrast with the snow in this picture.
