In the middle of the night, I was walking back to my house, and saw a frog jump. Earlier I had posted a picture of a pickerel frog, and this was a leopard frog. A pickerel frog has squarish-shaped spots that are close together, while a leopard frog has circular spots that are far apart.

Dark-eyed Junco Spotted on top of Ampersand Mountain

No one believed me when I said I saw a white squirrel earlier in the week--but here's the proof! I finally snapped a shot of the little guy on my way back from the U-Share Garden.

This female deer fly was biting my dog (and I think many of her sisters had been biting me!) so, after dispatching her on my dog's head, I took this photo. I identified it as belonging to the species Chrysops geminatus based on the great on line photo-based key at http://www.biology.ualberta.ca/bsc/ejournal/tm_08/chrysops89.htm produced by the Biological Survey of Canada. This species occurs throughout the eastern US, Ontario and Quebec.

A doe and her two fawns frequently spend their evening in our backyard. The two fawns like to play together and chase each other around the yard while their mother looks on.

While up for an early morning walk, I saw a female white tailed deer walking through a field.

While driving home at the end of the day, we saw a red fox run across the road.

You can find black raspberries all over the North Country. They are also called black caps.

There are multiple milkweed plants growing in our yard. They are great places for Monarch Butterflies to lay their eggs.
