Port Ontario Citizen Science Water Chestnut Pull

Learn the skills to survey your favorite water body or landscape for invasive species. this 35 minute session will teach you how to identify common invasive species along with the skills to survey your favorite water body or landscape. Session begins promptly at 8:30-9:30 AM; followed by a 2 hour volunteer activity where we will canoe and or kayak the Salmon River Estuary (West end) to survey for the invasive plant Water Chestnut. Participants will "hand-pull" the plants and return them to shore. Participants will then be engaged in an actual monitoring event from 9:15-12 PM where collected Water Chestnut will be weighed and data collected.

Additional Information

Bring your own boat/kayak. Proper attire for the outdoors you may get wet, you may want sunscreen, sunglasses a camera. Bring an eagerness to learn!
