Late Winter Leaf

Type: Open Photo
Habitat Description: River / Island / Forest
Natural history information: Sugar Island is named sugar island due to the consistency of sugar maple trees. The island includes a 3 mile trail system that is accessible four seasons a year. The natural highlights include Hannawa gorge with its class four rapids, majestic hemlock and pines, and plenty of beeches. The island used to be home a logging railroad.
Interest: I was drawn to this particular scene due to the longevity of this leaf. It fascinated me that a single leaf could make it this late into winter and still survive.
