Ice Storm 2013

Friday night we started to get lots of freezing rain. By Saturday morning, we had a good glaze. Around 1, the cable went out, and by 4 the power went out, as freezing rain continued. The freezing rain continued until Monday. It was amazing and sad to hear the trees popping and cracking. We got power back Monday evening. Luckily at that point, the outdoor temps hadn't dropped too badly, and we could maintain a reasonable temperature in the house with just fireplace heating. We ran the generator sparingly, as we had a limited supply of gas to run it. The hardest part was not really have great access to news and information. I think the next household purchase will be an emergency radio.

Thanks for sharing these Jill - I know what you mean about the emergency radio, though we were lucky and kept our power.
