Big Milk Snake Scare

I was walking down to the barn when I ran across this snake. We have lots of garter snakes that enjoy our wood pile, and they slither off pretty quickly if I stomp my foot--and they usually lie coiled in some form. This snake was lying straight out. I stomped my foot at it, and it was completely motionless, so I assume the dogs had killed it. I looked it up and down (it was pretty big), took this picture, and then went down to the barn. A few minutes later, Dan came out, and I told him to go look at the snake. The snake was no longer there, so apparently my "dead snake" wasn't really dead after all!

Wow! that is quite a snake. I found a snake skin about that size the other, but I've never seen a snake that big before. thanks for sharing!

Nice photo. When I see 'my' snakes - they like the garden and the sunny side of the barn - I always feel as though they'd just as soon I did not wander by.
