Furry Friend

I have mixed feelings about our squirrel friends here on campus. Amazing little creatures they are, they live an augmented life here using trash rooms as what I can only imagine is there main source of food. I see this guy almost everyday by my dorm with empty chip bags and other food scraps. There is a large Maple (acer saccharum) right by the trash house that serves as a perfect refuge for this furry friend once he snags his loot.

Watched two of these critters in a chase for the ultimate prize - a bagel! The one with the bagel was running hard zig zagging among the trees trying to shake off the one in hot pursuit!

Do they even have any predators here on campus? Seems to me that they are living a pretty easy life with all the free handouts and safety.
