Burying Beetle

Burying beetles are black with reddish markings on their backs. They are true to their name, burying carcasses of rodents or other small animals.

A burying beetle was the first beetle I identified using a guidebook. It led me to a fascination with beetles, their habits and their names.This is a fitting photograph: a colorful beetle in a colorful environment.
