This is a picture of when I went on a fishing charter in Lake Champlain with my two brothers out of Shelburne, VT. This was at the end of August, 2013. We were fishing for Lake Trout, and I was lucky enough to hook a 42-incher early in the day, the biggest one our captain and first mate have seen in years. Lake Trout (salvelinus namaycush) inhabit cold water and are native to fresh bodies of water throughout North America. They feed on small aquatic insects, crustaceans, and smaller fish. At the end of summer when we were fishing, Lake Champlain was fairly warm, so this is where the skill and knowledge of the captain was key. Because of the fact that Lake Trout like cold water, we had to drop our lines down about 150 feet below the surface, but all the reeling was worth it after this one catch!
