Recreation
Colden's "Cruciflyer" Slide
What a stellar climb up a double fall line. This little gem was created in 2011 by Tropical Storm Irene. It's not a beginner's slide, nor is it technical. For the full trip report and pictures see the "Slides and Bushwhacks" page at http://www.mackenziefamily.com/46/46r.html
Nippletop Slide
Took a friend and his girlfriend up this remote backcountry slide on Nippletop Mountain. It's a straightforward climb, but can make for a long day none-the-less. For the full trip report and pictures see the "Slides and Bushwhacks" page at http://www.mackenziefamily.com/46/46r.html
Nature Up North Campfire featuring Barb Heller
Last night Nature Up North hosted its most successful campfire yet, with over 30 people attending! After a day of intermittent rain showers that soaked our firewood and nearly forced the event indoors, the skies cleared for a lovely summer evening. We were treated to classic campfire tunes by local musician Barb Heller and friends. Good times and s'mores were had by all.
Paddle at Lake Lila
Nice paddle today on Lake Lila with the dogs. Also took a jaunt up Shingle Shanty Brook where there was lots of beaver activity. This is a great place for a wilderness paddle just outside of Tupper Lake.
Beautiful View!
While walking in the woods near the Northville-Lake Placid Trail, we stopped at a beautiful little pond.
Northern Parula
I heard a soft chipping off in the brush while hiking between Giant and Rocky Peak Ridge, which later turned out to be the small warbler, the Northern Parula
Eastern Chipmunk
There is a chipmunk living in one of the offices at St. Lawrence. After taking a few pictures, it ran up to see the camera.

Squirrel rescue!
This little guy or gal got trapped in our greenhouse overnight. Released it this morning and provided a refreshing peanut snack. I'd estimate this squirrel (eastern gray squirrel = Sciurus carolinensis) to be about 2 months old.
Spring is in the Air!
My favorite flowers are out on campus! Spice bush has one of the nicest fragrances!
