Recreation

Stone Valley September

Low water but a spectacular day for a Nature Up North hike back in September.

Snowy Owl

We had a visitor this morning at the basketball court by the 7th grade wing at JM McKenny Middle School.

Santinoni Bike

Great bike and night of camping while enjoying the beautiful fall foliage.

Burntbridge Pond trip

Mountain biked up to the Burntbridge Pond leanto Saturday. Bushwacked through swamp east of the pond into the Conifer Easement (the Forest Preserve boundary is remarkably well signed in this very remote swamp). Saw some beautiful pitcher plants, heard a barred owl around 2 am. Have encountered loons, bear and bald eagles here in the past.

Fall at the Falls

A Nature Up North hike at Stone Valley on a stunning fall day last Saturday. The water was low, allowing us to walk out onto the rocks in the river. We had a great group and even spotted a bald eagle flying overhead.

Otter last winter

I skied into an area on Cold Brook last winter and found these 2 otter just above a beaver dam.
