Citizen Science Day Hike
It was a beautiful day to celebrate citizen science on a hike with Nature Up North at Indian Creek Nature Center. We saw a lot of wildlife, including frogs, snow geese, ducks, and several types of plants. We also heard a number of different birds, like woodpeckers and chickadees.
Maple Bucket
Here are some pictures I took at Maple Weekend, 2016. It was a great day and we learned a lot about maple syrup production in the North Country.
Maple Bucket
This picture was taken during Maple Weekend at the Blue Heron Farm.
It's the sweet maple season!
It's an early season for many North Country Maple sugar producers.
I captured this bucket at Blue Heron Farm.
Maple Sugar Production
I recently had a chance to visit a maple sugar farm. Although it was cold and I did not get to see much of the production itself, I enjoyed learning about the process of making maple syrup.
Primitive Snowshoe Biathlon in Lisbon
On Saturday and Sunday, competitors were drawn all the way from Vermont, New Hampshire, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, in order to participate in the fourth annual Primitive Snowshoe Biathlon event held in Lisbon, NY. It was a beautiful morning, perfect for snowshoeing, shooting, and even some tomahawk throwing. Sponsored by The Fort La Présentation Association and Forsyth’s Rifles, this event was helping to fund the construction of a waterfront recreation trail on Lighthouse Point in Ogdensburg, NY.
Into The Woods
What a fun way to spend your afternoon exploring a local maple syrup production. Although it was cold and we did not get to see much of the production, we enjoyed learning about the process of producing maple syrup.
View of Big Tupper from the Village of Tupper Lake
I took this photo while driving back to St. Lawrence University from my home in southern New York because I always notice the snowy trails in the winter when driving through Tupper Lake, and the weather today was gorgeous! You'll notice that there is no snow in the town though. Big Tupper is a volunteer-run ski area in Tupper Lake. I skied there last year and it has some really cool terrain! Plus a lift ticket is only $20 - you can't beat that at any other mountain! Unfortunately Bug Tupper is not open this season, but will hopefully be operating again with more snow next season.
Winter Wonderland
Frozen but pretty! -17 degrees weather has got nothing on the North Country!
