Avalanche Pass Slide

If you've gone to Avalanche Pass, you've walked directly under this slide created in 1999 by Hurricane Floyd. Keep in mind that skiing/snowshoeing is strictly forbidden. Triggering an avalanche here would put anyone on the trail below in jeopardy. For the full trip report and pictures see the "Slides and Bushwhacks" page at http://www.mackenziefamily.com/46/46r.html

Colden's "Cruciflyer" Slide

What a stellar climb up a double fall line. This little gem was created in 2011 by Tropical Storm Irene. It's not a beginner's slide, nor is it technical. For the full trip report and pictures see the "Slides and Bushwhacks" page at http://www.mackenziefamily.com/46/46r.html

Nippletop Slide

Took a friend and his girlfriend up this remote backcountry slide on Nippletop Mountain. It's a straightforward climb, but can make for a long day none-the-less. For the full trip report and pictures see the "Slides and Bushwhacks" page at http://www.mackenziefamily.com/46/46r.html

Northern Parula

I heard a soft chipping off in the brush while hiking between Giant and Rocky Peak Ridge, which later turned out to be the small warbler, the Northern Parula

Jenkins mountain and deer fly species #2

We had a lovely hike up Jenkins Mountain, leaving from the Paul Smiths VIC. The first photo is the view to the south from the top of Jenkins, looking at the Saranac chain of lakes. The second photo is a beaver pond we encountered along the way, which provided a wonderful swimming opportunity for the dog. The third and fourth photos are of the same deer fly, keyed out as Chrysops mitis (a different species than the one in my earlier encounter posting). This gal got away more-or-less unscathed after the photo was taken.

The Adirondacks

Three hikers - Page, Dylan and Ryann met Erin Siracusa.

Ms. Siracusa explained the geological formations in the Adirondacks
which formed vistas beyond description.

It was a terrific sunny and invigorating day - get outside and away from your computer!

Gothics South Face (Original Route 5.4)

This was leg 2 of a day-climb up Gothics Rainbow Slide (East Face), South Face (Original Route 5.4) and North Face (Finger Slide 5.1). Full pictures and story are located at this address: http://forums.adkhighpeaks.com/showthread.php?t=21847

The Flume

A beautiful day to see some waterfalls on the Ausable River and dangle our feet in the water after a nice hike. This is a great swimming hole when the water is warmer but boy was it chilly today! Check it out this summer, head out Route 86 toward Wilmington and you'll see the parking spot on your left about 2 miles outside Wilmington.
