Red sappy Scars

The is the second time I'm posting pictures of the red pine tree I came across on campus today. It was bid and it had sap and these round scars around them. Maybe I'm exaggerating here a bit, but those scars were a little hypnotizing. It looked like the tree had incurred some type of injury in the past and it has finish healing itself. It reminds me that when something gets broken or removed, it is not the end, nature has created mechanisms to heal and regenerate parts of the tree. What I found interesting is that it is still healing because the sap in still in the middle, which means it is covering the injury.
