October Brings Fairies to the North Country!

October Brings Fairies to the North Country!

By Thimble & Blossom

As the vibrant autumn leaves begin to fall and the air starts to chill, it's time to be on the lookout for fairies in the North Country! Before they migrate south for the winter, Thimble and Blossom have taken up residence on our trails to enjoy fall activities such as foraging for acorns with the squirrels, tucking the bears in for hibernation, and collecting dew from the last blooming wildflowers. Through all of their woodland travels they’ve become excellent naturalists, and are now here to answer any questions you may have! Between October 8th and November 1st, use the clues to find their homes on trails around the North Country. Once you find their homes, use your phone’s camera to scan the QR code on the sign next to our house. It will take you to a form where you can leave us your nature questions! Happy searching!

Tooley Pond Mountain East Trail (Clare):

Across from the clearing where humans park their machines,

Past the red "Foot Path" marker, take in nature's scenes.

Sift through the thicket of fern and young maple,

Listen for bullfrogs, a North Country staple!

On your left, see the shimmering pond through the trees.

Descending into the forest, feel the autumnal breeze.

Soon, you'll reach a path of fern and mossy stone,

We decided our cottage should sit near this zone.

Past this path, on your left, sits a large rock with moss

Guiding you to a valley that sunlight shimmers across.

Between two mighty maples, we've nestled our shelter

To the right sits a silly tree, all helter-skelter!

Clarkson Woods (Potsdam):

Past the Adirondack lodge, your journey commences.

To navigate the woods, you should use all your senses.

A keen eye must search the map at the start

For the deck of observation at the forests' heart.

Feel the dry leaves underfoot as they crunch on the ground.

Through the yellow gate, listen for Earth's peaceful sound.

Turning right at the first fork, then again right, moving on

Though if white diamonds appear, too far you have gone!

At the branchless tree with an orange mark,

You're close to our camp, to the right you'll embark.

Careful across the footbridge, you'll find your way

To a proud paper birch and our cozy chalet!

Lampson Falls (Clare):

Through the yellow gate with the big stop sign;

Look at the trees with their colors divine.

Follow the path of gravel as it takes you along;

Keep an eye out for toads, maybe sing a little song!

Follow the wood path to the left as you zig and zag,

If you brought a furry friend, their tail's sure to wag!

Stop at the falls, enjoy the beautiful sight;

But your journey is not done, now turn to the right.

Follow the hill down, but be careful, don't slip;

You'll soon reach the beach at the end of our trip.

In between two maple trees, by our favorite swim spot,

You'll find our cute little home; we love it a lot!

By Thimble & Blossom

Thimble and Blossom are two traveling woodland fairies who love to migrate through the North Country on their way towards the tropical forests where they spend their winter. Thimble loves spending his time exploring the tops of trees and enjoys surfing down the falling leaves in autumn. Blossom likes to spend many of her afternoons befriending bees and butterflies in the forest. She also loves to take dewdrop baths every morning while listening to morning birdsong. Because they live in the woods, Thimble and Blossom have learned a lot about North Country plants and animals throughout the years. They're very excited to share their knowledge with you!
