This roadcut is called the "Train Wreck". The majority of the rock in the picture is Grenville-aged marble (~1.3 billion years old). The marble was once cross-cut by a mafic dike. This vertical intrusion was then broken up into the dark mafic blocks that you see in the image. This roadcut gives us an idea of what the shape the interior of mountain belts look like.

Reminds me of drives home from St. Lawrence with Hannah Drummond (Geology major '15). She would always point out interesting features of the roadcuts along the way. It's amazing how much we can learn when you know what to look for! What a cool spot - thanks for sharing!
