Raquette River

Icy Waters

The icy cold Racquette River in Colton sure is pretty during breakup!

First Paddle of the Season

An ice-free Raquette Flow, clear skies, and temperatures near 60 made it a perfect day for the first paddle of the year.

A Little Lampson Falls

This is the last of three images of the Raquette River that runs alongside the Stone Valley trail. This image also depicts movement with the running water in the image. It contains a miniature waterfall formed by the slope of the landscape. Natural History: Like much of the North Country the landscape of Stone Valley Park was formed by the movement of large land glaciers and ice sheets many thousands of years ago. Their movement has shaped the land and are responsible for the presence of large rocks and boulders in the area.

Running Water

This is the first of three photos taken at the Stone Valley Cooperative Recreational Area, and is of the Raquette River located that runs parallel to part of the Stone Valley trail. This picture is also of running water and depicts movement or implies movement. Raquette River (Close up)

This close-up was taken during our time in Stone Valley located in Colton, New York during a lab field trip. The Raquette River was surrounded on both sides by snow cover as well as hardwood forests on each side. This picture originally drew my attention because the cedar limbs create a natural frame for the river and emphasize the river’s natural appearance that was meant to be the focus point. I also found this picture fascinating because there was heavy snowfall that day and many of the snowflakes were captured in this picture.

Raquette River (Landscape)

I took this picture of the river landscape during our class trip to Stone Valley in Colton, New York. The picture of this landscape embodies many aspects of several other pictures I’ve taken. This picture shows a wide view of the Raquette River along with the hardwood forest environment that portrays a range of different tree species. I found this picture interesting because you can see the movement in the stream as well as the falling snowflakes landing on the ground. The atmosphere here has a very peaceful feeling and to me this seemed as a calming photo.

The Raquette River

There are many natural highlights at the Red Sandstone Trail in Potsdam, including the Hannawa gorge with its class four rapids, The Sugar Island Flow, and a predominant pine, hemlock and beech forest. This four season trail is perfect if you are looking to get out and experience the call of the wild close at hand. I took this shot on top of a hill that overlooks the river. This image captures the magnificent flow of the water moving northward. A great image overall!

Colton river Panorama

Deciduous hardwood forest and river habitat
Colton has all these trails that walk right past the Raquette. The river is quite beautiful with the trails that run along it into the forest. The views are amazing and during the winter the views are perfect with the boulders covered in ice and snow. The location looks great, and has pretty great views of the woods and river even when frozen. I took this photo because the view was beautiful at the time. The Panorama looked really nice that day, and the view is just naturally beautiful.
