Letterbox on Dial Mountain

For anyone who may be into letterboxing, I unexpectedly came across this letterbox on top of Dial Mountain. There is a large rock at the summit and underneath the ledge is a small container with a booklet to place your stamp, as well as a unique hand-carved stamp to place in your personal booklet. It's a bit of climb to get up there but a great reward for hikers and letterboxers alike.

Viewing a black bear at the shoreline.

I was kayaking along the shore of Lake Ozonia when I saw this black bear at the shoreline. I was able to take several photos before it disappeared into the trees and vegetation that line the shore.

Moss Waterfall at Lillian Brook

I did a bit of exploring around Lillian Brook in Dix Mountain wilderness and came across this small waterfall with a bed of moss flourishing on it. I found it to be quite beautiful.

North American Millipede

I was walking the Stone Valley Trail with a good friend who was visiting the area, and on our way back, we came across this little guy right on the trail. I had never seen a North American Millipede, and I never knew how big they were. This one was about 5-6 inches long (not for the faint of heart with bugs - my friend refused to pick it up, so I handed her my phone to take a picture while I moved it to a more open spot), and seemed unperturbed when I picked it up. All of those little legs come together for one pretty strong grip!

Massena Boys and Girls Club Fishing on the St. Lawrence River

The Nature Up North team had a great time fishing with the Massena Boys and Girls Club on the St. Lawrence River today. We caught some small yellow perch and also spotted a bowfin swimming and some Osprey flying overhead!

Exploring the St. Regis River
