Lake
Clear Pond
This pond is located on the road into Lake Meachum camp ground. Kayaking on it is such an adventure because it is true to its name being crystal clear.
Viewing a black bear at the shoreline.
I was kayaking along the shore of Lake Ozonia when I saw this black bear at the shoreline. I was able to take several photos before it disappeared into the trees and vegetation that line the shore.
Storm rolling over Black Lake
Our first storm experience on the lake! 3 kids loved and one stayed inside crying!
Outdoor lakeside concert
Enjoying the Lake Placid Sinfonietta concert along the shore of Mirror Lake as they perform their "Winging It" concert.
Beaver Dam
On a two-day backpacking trip around the High Falls Loop, starting from Wanakena and passing by Cranberry Lake, I came across this beautifully constructed beaver dam. I had crossed several beaver dams over the course of the day but this one stood out right at the edge of the swampy trail. I had to stop to marvel at the work of nature's architects for a few minutes before the sun began to drop below the trees. What an amazing sight to see!
Canoeing in the Adirondacks with Erika
This was a gorgeous day to be out on the water!
Fish Creek Frolic
Perfect day to take my sister from Chicago for a paddle in the Adirondacks. We started at Follensby Clear Pond and paddled around to Fish Creek for lunch. Brought the two dogs - first canoe for Gus the puppy. Clear sky, temps about 65, and lots of dragonflies to keep the bugs at bay!
Trillium at Heart Lake
On a recent walk around Heart Lake and the Adirondack Loj I found myself admiring the beautiful Trillium flowers that appeared to be popping up everywhere. As it is one of the few plants I think I can accurately identify, the flowers immediately caught my attention. Upon further research I discovered that these flowers have traditionally been used to treat a wide range of maladies from coughs to menstrual disorders. However, these should not be put to the test considering that some varieties of Trillium are endangered, threatened or vulnerable.
Overlooking Tupper Lake
Our Natural History class took a class trip to the wild center in Tupper lake, Ny. After our walk inside we took a walk on the beautiful 31 acre trail. This trail had a number of different tree species as well as animal tracks. The view of the lake was beautiful. The lake was frozen and beautiful. This picture is very interesting to me because it captures a essence of beauty. It shows the true width of this lake as well as the misty north country sky in the background.
Otter Family
I saw this family of otters, five total, on the Raquette River near the outlet of Tupper Lake on December 21st. When they noticed me approaching they dove under water for 10-15 seconds, but then came up and resumed barking and playing with each other. Always a treat to see these guys.
