On a brisk, clear afternoon, I observed the pretty view of of a flowing river next to a deciduous forest. A deciduous forest is a sign of a very mature forest. In the beginning stages of succession, smaller leafy plants that require a lot of light and are intolerant of shade. Next, taller woody plants will start to grow, usually conifers are early successive trees. Finally, trees with broader leaves will take over, which are the types of trees in a deciduous forest. This process takes hundreds of years, so this deciduous forest featured in this picture is very mature.
