Termite damage

This picture is a close up taken on February 5th at Stone Valley. It depicts a dead tree with marks and scratches around the bark. The marks were from termites from within the tree, feeding on the wood. At first when I saw this I thought it was claw markings from an animal such porcupines or even a bear. I did not realize that these markings were from the tiny termites feeding on the wood.
