Dead Hare Foot

Type: closeup. Habitat description: hardwood forrest. Natural History information: We came across this site one one of our walks. There was a clear interaction between a snowshoe hare and a predator, and the predator most certainly won. Behind the image of the foot, you can see the the snow where the disturbance took place. Unfortunately by the time we got there, all of the tracks had been snowed over, so we could not decider the type of predator. Snowshoe hares are generally prey to species including lynx, bobcats, fishers, foxes, coyotes, and even some birds of prey. I like this image because it is like a crime scene, we get to imagine how the predator prey interaction occurred, and there is lots of evidence remaining.
