Collision

This is a picture of water flowing over the falls near Heritage Park in Canton. I found it fascinating how the water is stagnant in the center of the collision. The physics behind water pressure and directionality is above me but watching it happen is quite interesting. It reminds me of the ocean's waves crashing on a beach, but coming from both sides. I wondered what would happen to fish that go over the falls with the water. Do they get stuck in a whirlpool or do they fly right through?
