North Country explorer from Bloomfield, New York
This photo was taken in the forest at Stone Valley in Colton, NY. It was very cold and snowing heavily on this day; we often found ourselves slipping down the steep, icy trails. Though we could tell that the river had extreme rapids and some waterfalls in some areas, it was fascinating how they were mostly frozen over, creating a beautiful ice cap with trickles of water still flowing down underneath into the fast-moving water below. There are beautiful rock islands, most covered in at least six inches of snow, and some were tiny, making it look like white gumdrops sticking out of a black mass.
