Title: Beaver Lodge
Date: Summer 2012
Location: Back Woods Pond- Blue Mountain Lake, N.Y.
Habitat: Pond
Natural History: Beavers are the builders of nature. With there sophisticated dams, they take a swift flowing body of water and can transform it into a slower almost stagnate body of water. This changes the ecosystem dramatically, attracting new plant and animale species. Beavers usually come and go from the territory they occupy for two reasons. One, beaver are trapped. Two, lack of resources. Beavers primarily consume tree species of Paper Birch and Aspen— once the food source is fully consumed, they move on.
