Gooseberries in the Backyard

SLU has a permaculture garden right on campus (behind Commons and Security) where I saw these tasty berries. They're easy to find if you know what to look for: a tall, thick bush of round-lobed leaves with good-sized green or purple/red berries. They're non-native but generally friendly to neighboring plants. In the same genus as currants (Ribes), gooseberries are a bit sour. Good for pies, teas, and jam, the berries are also tasty right off the vine!
