Great Blue Heron fishing on the Deer River Flow

Last Friday was possibly my last kayaking adventure for this year. My cousin and I put in on the Deer River Flow off of Route 30 and paddled for 5 hours. We reached Horseshoe Pond and on the return trip encountered 3 Great Blue Heron. I floated near the put in and watched this heron fishing. It was so focused it didn't seem to mind that I was fairly near taking its picture.

Sunset on Fourth Lake

Sunsets on Fourth Lake are out of this world!

Dawn on Quiver Pond

The cool Spring air mingled with the warmer pond waters creating ribbons of mist. This photograph was taken at 5:30 in the morning.

Clear Pond

This pond is located on the road into Lake Meachum camp ground. Kayaking on it is such an adventure because it is true to its name being crystal clear.

Head in the clouds upside down!

Kayaking with a friend on the Raquette River, Stump Bay near Higley State Park the water was like glass so the reflections were amazing!

Viewing a black bear at the shoreline.

I was kayaking along the shore of Lake Ozonia when I saw this black bear at the shoreline. I was able to take several photos before it disappeared into the trees and vegetation that line the shore.

Little River Critters

We spotted a baby muskrat and two young deer while paddling along the Little River today. We startled the muskrat and it swam across the river right in front of us. Look closely for the deer on the left bank in the patch of purple pickerelweed flowers. Unfortunately the deer ran away before I could line up a good shot, but a nice encounter nonetheless.
